How it works

How a new website project works.

Five steps from first call to a live site that keeps improving, with what I need from you at each one.

  1. A 15-minute call

You tell me what the site needs to do and who it’s for, and I tell you if I’m the right fit. In person in Ipswich if you’d rather meet.

  2. Plan and sitemap

We agree the pages and the searches each one should be found for. From you: your services and the towns you cover.

  3. Words, then design

I write the copy first and design around it. From you: one call to check the facts, plus your logo and any photos.

  4. Build and launch

A landing page takes 3 to 7 days; a full site is a big build of 7 days or more. From you: sign-off before it goes live.

  5. Keep improving

Each month I look at what people search, click and ask, then fix the weakest page first.

Cost

What a new website costs in Ipswich.

UK price guides put most business websites at £1,500 to £15,000 up front, with changes charged on top. With me, a full website is included on Growth Desk at £1,950 a month, with hosting handled and improvements every month after launch. On Foundations at £995 a month, a full site is quoted separately and smaller jobs, like a landing page, are standard requests.

How much does it cost to have a website designed in Ipswich?

UK price guides put most business websites at £1,500 to £15,000 up front, with changes charged on top. With me, a full website is included on Growth Desk at £1,950 a month, and smaller jobs such as a landing page are standard requests on any plan from £995 a month.

How long does a new website take?

A landing page takes 3 to 7 days. A multi-page website is a big build of 7 days or more, depending on the number of pages and how much copy needs writing. Unlimitely’s 29-page site went live in two sprints.

Do you write the words for the website?

Yes. I write every page after a short call with you, because the words are what turn a visitor into an enquiry. You check the facts and the tone before anything goes live, so you never start from a blank page.

What is the 3 second rule in web design?

It’s the idea that a visitor decides in about three seconds whether they’re in the right place. So the first screen of every page I build says what you do, where you do it and what to do next, and it loads fast on a phone.

Will my new website show up on Google and in ChatGPT?

It’s built to. Every site gets clear page titles, a page for each service, the towns you cover and schema that search engines and AI tools can read. That matters: in my study of 1,253 Suffolk businesses, 962 weren’t named by ChatGPT, Gemini or Google AI Mode.

Is web design still worth it in 2026?

Yes, if the site brings in enquiries. Buyers still check your website before they call, and AI tools now read websites to decide which firms to recommend. A slow or vague site costs you twice: once in search and again when people land on it.

Do you handle hosting and domains?

Yes. I host the sites I build, and if you don’t have a domain yet I’ll register one for you, in your name. You don’t need to deal with a separate hosting company, and the site and domain stay yours if you ever move.

Can I update the website myself?

It depends how the site is built. On WordPress or Webflow you can edit pages yourself in the editor. On Astro, my default for new sites, you send changes as requests and small ones are done in 1 to 2 days, or I can add an editor if you want one.

Do I own the website?

Yes. The code, the content and the domain are yours from day one. If you leave, I hand everything over and you can host it anywhere you like, with no exit fee and nothing held back.

What do you need from me?

Not much. A 15-minute first call, a list of your services and the towns you cover, one call to check the facts in the copy, your logo and any photos, and sign-off before launch. If you don’t have good photos yet, we work around it.

What happens after the website goes live?

I keep improving it. Each month I look at what people search, click and ask, then fix the weakest page or add the next one. Hosting and small changes are handled, so the site doesn’t sit untouched for years like most do.

Can you redesign my current website without losing rankings?

Yes. Before anything changes I map every old page to its new one and set up redirects, so Google and your visitors land in the right place. On Growth Desk a full redesign runs as your big build; on Foundations it’s quoted separately.

Do you build ecommerce websites?

No. I build websites for service businesses that want enquiries and bookings, not online shops. If you need a product catalogue, stock and a checkout, a specialist ecommerce developer will serve you better, and I’ll say so on the first call.

Should I use a freelance web designer or an Ipswich agency?

An agency suits a large site that needs several specialists at once. A freelance web designer suits most small firms: one person plans, writes, builds and improves the site, and you talk to the person doing the work. I work with firms across Suffolk, from Felixstowe and Woodbridge to Bury St Edmunds.
